Troubleshooting

Most connection problems come down to a small number of causes. Work through the relevant section below before posting in the community.

Unable to connect

If the app times out or shows a connection error, go through this checklist in order.

Is the WebSocket server enabled in OBS?

In OBS Studio, go to ToolsWebSocket Server Settings and confirm that Enable WebSocket server is ticked. If it is not, tick it, click OK, and try again.

Are your phone and computer on the same network?

A direct connection requires both devices to be on the same Wi-Fi network or local network. Check that your phone is not on mobile data. If you need to connect from a different network, see Remote Access.

Is the IP address correct?

Your computer's local IP can change when it reconnects to Wi-Fi. On Windows, open Command Prompt and run ipconfig. On Mac, go to System Settings › Wi-Fi › Details. Look for the IPv4 address (usually starting with 192.168. or 10.) and update the device in the app if it has changed.

Is port 4455 blocked by a firewall?

Windows Firewall or third-party security software may block inbound connections on port 4455. Check your firewall settings and add an exception for OBS Studio if needed. On Windows, search for Windows Defender Firewall and add an inbound rule for port 4455.

Is OBS Studio version 28 or later?

Control OBS uses the WebSocket 5 protocol, which was introduced in OBS Studio 28. Earlier versions of OBS use WebSocket 4, which is not compatible. Update OBS Studio from obsproject.com.

Authentication failed or wrong password

How do I find or reset my WebSocket password?

In OBS Studio, go to ToolsWebSocket Server Settings. If authentication is enabled, you can see the current password in the Server Password field, or change it there. After changing the password, update it in the app by editing the device.

The app keeps prompting for a password I did not set

If authentication is ticked in OBS but no password is set, OBS may still require one. Open the WebSocket settings, untick Enable Authentication if you do not want a password, and click OK.

Connected but scenes or audio are not showing

The app connected but the scene list is empty

Try tapping the device to disconnect and reconnect. If you have no scenes in OBS, add at least one in OBS Studio first. Scenes created after connecting will appear automatically.

Audio sources are missing from the mixer

Only audio inputs with monitoring enabled or that appear in the OBS Audio Mixer are shown. Check that your sources are visible in the OBS audio mixer and are not hidden. Reconnect the app after making changes.

A source I renamed in OBS still shows the old name

Source renames are picked up automatically via the OBS event system. If the old name persists, disconnect and reconnect the app to refresh the full source list.

App keeps disconnecting

The connection drops after a short time

This is usually caused by the phone's screen turning off and the OS suspending background network activity. Keep the app in the foreground during use. On iOS, go to Settings › Display & Brightness and increase the Auto-Lock time while streaming.

Connection is unstable on Wi-Fi

A weak Wi-Fi signal can cause intermittent disconnections. Move closer to your router, or consider using a wired connection on your computer. The app will attempt to reconnect automatically, but switching scenes during a reconnect may not register.

QR code scanner

The QR scanner button is not working or the camera does not open

The app requires camera permission to scan QR codes. Go to your phone's Settings › Control OBS and make sure Camera access is set to While Using App. Then return to the app and try again.

The QR code is detected but the details look wrong

The QR code from OBS WebSocket Server Settings contains your computer's local IP address. If you are connecting from a different network, the IP will not be reachable and you will need to change it manually after scanning. See Remote Access for options.
